This past week we celebrated the Grand Opening of our new store! Here are some pics from the event:

Next are some happy customers I met as I arrived. I love that this mom and her girls were out together having a girls night and making useful things for themselves at the same time, and for much lower cost than if they had just gone to the mall and bought something!
One of the most unique parts of the store is that there are tables out all the time so that customers have the option to stay and make things in the store. They have Wendy’s expertise and advise available for one-on-one instruction. Where else can you get something like that?!

To celebrate the grand opening and show appreciation for all of the loyal customers who have brought Glitz Me by Wendy’s beads this far, Wendy had a prize spinning wheel and some fun festive refreshments.

Wendy has done it again! I don’t know many ladies who don’t love bags and purses. We have decided that it is a strange form of therapy for women to hold and touch beautiful bags. We love them! That is why we have introduced them in the store!

What many people don’t know, is that Glitz Me started with a physical store, which we keep in operation. It started in Wendy’s garage and just recently moved to a larger space in her shop. Wendy keeps the store open two days a week and other times by appointment. We have spend MANY fun hours in the store and we love sharing the experience with our customers. If you are in the area, please stop by!

I am always looking for beads with lots of creative potential outside of jewelry-making . I think it is the crafting addict in me– the same part of me that saves baby formula cans, shoe boxes, and fabric scraps. It is just SO FUN to make something into something other than what it was originally intended to be. Maybe it is a brain exercise or something. That would be a good thing to tell our husbands, right?
Anyways, these beads are some of those beads with so many possibilities. Not only that but they are bright and fun prints!
Don’t you just love them? I don’t know if you can tell, but the feather one is iridescent. I can picture these babies so many places, like glued on a ring, or in the center of a flower or bow for a little girl’s hair. How about the animal print version on a key chain for those of you who have tigers as your school mascot? The could also be cute as an accent on a home-made card in place of a button or dangling from a zipper pull on a sweatshirt. How about just glued on a bobby pin? (see this tutorial)
Have I gotten your wheels turning? Just when you thought all of those random left over beads from other projects were useless… I think I am going to go play with some of these babies right now. All of the wallets have space for lots of cards (I have all of my insurance cards, gift cards, store discount cards, debit card, and credit card in mine!) and many of them have space for your check book. There is also a pocket for cash and another for change. Never loose things in your purse again! And of course, it is always more fun to be Glitzy than not!
The story of Glitz Me by Wendy’s Beads really didn’t start with beads at all. It started with two friends and our love of all things crafty. We were introduced to beaded watch bands by another crafting friend just as beading was becoming trendy in our area. As we had with many crafts in the past, we started into beading by buying enough beads to make some things and sell them and then have some left over for ourselves. It was our way of paying for our crafting addiction!
Our first bead order cost under $300 and the two of us split bags of 10-40 beads so that we would each have a “larger variety” of beads without both of us spending the money. Wendy started by having group parties in her garage, and Melanie traveled to neighboring towns. Faster than we could have ever imagined, the “bead party” trend caught fire and we had more business than we were able to handle. As our bead orders became larger and larger to meet the demands of our clients, so did our vision of what our little business could become.
By the time Christmas of that year came around, we knew we had to make the choice to “go big or go home.” Wendy had a large garage and an idea that would revolutionize beading in our area. We combined resources and Wendy took over the business, with Melanie continuing as a partner in making jewelry pieces and aiding in business changes and growth.
As the business has grown, it has become necessary to have more help with organizing beads, making “bag of beads,” designing jewelry, putting together websites, and all of the other things that come with running a business. Britany came into Wezndy’s beads as a customer, but with her love of beading, unique eye for organizing, and talent in photography and graphic design, she soon became a friend and a third partner on the Wendy’s beads team.
Wendy’s beads has grown from a small, portable beading business in to a full-fledged bead store, with thousands of bead and finding choices, including Wendy’s exclusive “bag of beads,” which are bags of 25-35 beads, with colors pre-matched by Wendy and others. The “bag of beads” eliminates the sometimes difficult job of finding just the right beads to go together, especially when trying to choose from several thousand beads!
We have also added, purses, wallets, shoes, and more to our ever-growing inventory, which has necessitated the change in our name. Glitz Me by Wendy’s beads is now the premier place to visit not just for jewelry, but for all things glitzy and fun!
